Updated: Dec 14, 2023

Greetings, Trainz Community!

We're excited to unveil the latest and greatest advancement in Trainz world-building: Surveyor 2.0 (S20). S20 isn't just an update; it's a complete overhaul that transforms how you create routes and sessions in Trainz, offering a modern, streamlined experience. Let's dive into what makes S20 a game-changer.

The Future of Route Creation: Scrapbook

Scrapbook is here to revolutionize route creation. Gone are the days of the basic Copy/Paste tools. With Scrapbook, you can now paint, clone, and share parts of your routes like never before. Create a scene, save it in a Scrapbook, and then reuse it across multiple routes with ease.

Multi-Baseboard Management

Managing your baseboards has never been easier. Adding new baseboards is as simple as dragging the Marquee tool and clicking Add Baseboards. Need to remove some? Just select and delete.

Advanced Object Selection & Manipulation

Our new Marquee Tool enables you to select multiple objects, ground textures, and effect layers within a specified area. This tool, combined with advanced filters, elevates your ability to move, rotate, delete, and manipulate your selections in unprecedented ways.

New Gizmos: Move & Rotate

Introducing gizmos – a crucial innovation in S20. These intuitive tools allow you to precisely move or rotate objects, splines, terrain, and textures, offering an unparalleled level of control in your world-building process.

Contextual Menus: Enhanced Functionality

When you select an object in S20, a contextual menu appears, offering a range of operations based on the asset's category. This feature adds depth and versatility to how you interact with objects in your routes.

Palettes: Your Workspace, Your Way

S20 introduces customizable Palettes. Move, resize, minimize, show, or hide them to tailor your workspace to your needs. These Palettes provide detailed information and controls for editing and manipulating every aspect of your world.

The Assets Palette: In-Game Content Management

With the Assets Palette, managing your content in-game has never been more powerful. Use filters to quickly find what you need, and enjoy advanced functionalities like "Filter Selection" to streamline your creation process.

Tools Palette: Versatility Unleashed

The Tools Palette in S20 offers a range of powerful, versatile tools. Now, a single tool can be used across multiple asset types, enhancing efficiency and creativity in your route building.

Layers Palette: Organize with Ease

Keep track of all your route, session, and effect layers in one convenient place. The Layers Palette ensures you always know which layer you're working on.

The Brush Tool: Unlimited Potential

The new multi-purpose Brush Tool can do it all – from painting ground textures to manipulating terrain. And now, your brush size is unlimited, offering even more flexibility.

Eyedropper: Precision and Convenience

The Eyedropper Tool is a game-changer. Identify and add assets to picklists, get ground heights, and start painting or placing assets with a simple click.

Preview Palette: Clear and Customizable

Say goodbye to the tiny asset preview window. With the new Preview Palette, you can resize and reposition the preview to always have a clear view of your selected asset.
